Beached Help

Success at Beached requires you to destroy at least 10 of the 12 T-72's in the 2 armour columns heading for the beachhead. There are also 2 ZSU-23's in each column, but you can ignore them (at least for the purpose of the mission objective). There are 3 other Hornets targetting these vehicles, but they probably won't get enough for you to get a 'mission successful' without at least 1 rearm. There are also 4 F-16's conducting a SEAD through the area, but they won't get all the threats either.

That means you will have to rearm to finish off the vehicles. Problem is, that by the time you get back to them they will probably have stopped moving so you won't be able to get them on GMT. That means you will have to go in low to waypoint 2 to find the remains of the columns visually. That's not all that easy, as you will have to contend with the remaining SA-8's and just possibly some mobile AAA left in the columns. (Stay low, and watch out for those SA-8's - when they fire, they are within 4 miles and you don't have a lot of time to evade them!)

There's one thing that can help - if you destroy a stationary vehicle at the head of a column by strafing, the remaining vehicles may start moving again - they will circle around their waypoint if they aren't obstructed. Remember to keep checking Operations (Shift+O) for your mission status.

Four Tomcats are flying CAP so any interceptor threat from Kaesong should be dealt with by them, but keep your eyes open. If you rearm at Dongducheon you will most likely be spiked by one of the interceptors on your way there, so be ready to fire a couple of missiles. There will be a lot of targets on the display - make sure you have spiked an enemy! You shouldn't need to get into a furball though - the Tomcats can deal with them before they get their own problems from the SA-6's near Kaesong.

Maverick's are good against the T-72's, as long as you can get them on GMT. If you can't get them on GMT, go visual with the cannon or a Mk-82HD, as long as the ZSU-23's have been destroyed.

Which column to go for first is up to you, but if one of the columns is completely destroyed on the first run you will only have to find one small group of vehicles on the second run - much easier! I tend to go for the northern group on the first run, because they are closer to those SA-8's which probably won't be destroyed by the F-16's.

Nothing is certain though - I programmed a variable delay for the 1st interceptor launching from Kaesong to introduce some small variations to the gameplay, and the SA-8's won't necessarily all appear every time.

Replay

This one was a bit lucky - I picked up the vehicles visually and was able to attack them without the SAM's getting a lock on me. I snapped off a passing shot at one of the 'dead' SAM sites on the way out too, but missed (typical). Not worth bothering with though - I already had a 'mission successful', and the Marines could finish them off anyway once the T-72's were out.

BTW - I rearmed at Dongducheon because a bug in my software wouldn't let me do it on the Enterprise, which was closer. If you have the same problem, maybe it's a bug in the mission . . . I was also not being credited for the vehicles I destroyed. Maybe I should reinstall Korea (again)?

Loadout?

Try variations on Maverick's, HARM's, and 82HD's. I didn't carry HARM's in the replay mission, but there were other times when I could have used them. The more HARM's you carry, the less Maverick's, so make your own choice - maybe 1 HARM could be useful to put out the nearest SA-8 or a leftover ZSU-23 - and be aware that on your second run over the target you may want to use 82HD's.
